Black Bulls Members: Every Squad Member Explained

The Black Bulls are the most chaotic squad of Magic Knights in the Clover Kingdom. Their base is half wrecked, they fight constantly, and other squads treat them as a joke. They are also the squad that took in Asta when nobody else would, and by the end of Black Clover, one of the most important squads in the kingdom.

Who Are the Black Bulls?

The Clover Kingdom's Magic Knights are split into squads, each led by a captain. Most squads recruit the most talented mages they can find. The Black Bulls do the opposite. Their captain, Yami Sukehiro, recruits people other squads rejected: troublemakers, outcasts and people with magic nobody else knew how to use.

For a long time, the Black Bulls were ranked last among the squads and known more for property damage than heroism. Over the series, the misfits prove everyone wrong. Their loyalty to each other, and Yami's motto, "surpass your limits", turn them into one of the kingdom's strongest forces.

Noelle Silva

Noelle Silva is the Black Bulls member fans search for most, with thousands of searches for her name every month. She's also one of the best character arcs in Black Clover.

A royal outcast

Noelle belongs to House Silva, one of the Clover Kingdom's royal families. She was born with enormous water magic, but she couldn't control it. Her spells shot off in random directions, and her siblings treated her as a disgrace. Her mother, Acier, was a famous Magic Knight, and Noelle grew up in her shadow.

Finding her strength

Joining the Black Bulls changes everything. Asta is the first person who believes she'll master her magic, and with the squad's support she does. Her signature defensive spell protects her friends, and later she develops a powerful armored form, the Valkyrie Dress, that turns her into one of the kingdom's strongest fighters.

Noelle and Asta

Magna Swing

Magna is Asta's first senior in the Black Bulls: loud, hot-headed and proud of his peasant roots. He uses fire magic and appoints himself Asta's "big brother" on day one. He's one of the weakest Black Bulls by raw mana, and later in the story he builds a remarkable fighting style that proves effort can make up for talent, just like Asta.

Luck Voltia

Luck always smiles, especially when he's fighting. He uses lightning magic and loves battle so much that it unsettles his own squadmates. Behind the grin is a lonely past, and the Black Bulls become the friends he never had. He and Magna are a famous rival-duo within the squad.

Vanessa Enoteca

Vanessa is a witch from the Witches' Forest who escaped her controlling queen to join the Black Bulls. She uses thread magic, and she's usually found drinking. Her greatest power is a spell that can bend fate itself, which makes her one of the most important members in the squad's biggest fights.

Finral Roulacase

Finral is the squad's transport. His spatial magic opens portals, so the Black Bulls can reach any battlefield fast. He spends his free time trying to flirt, without success. Finral is from a noble family and has a complicated relationship with his younger brother, Langris.

The Rest of the Squad

Gauche Adlai uses mirror magic and adores his little sister, Marie, to an alarming degree. His protectiveness becomes heroism when it counts.
Charmy Pappitson is tiny, always hungry, and makes magic food that heals her friends. She's also much stronger than she looks.
Gordon Agrippa looks gloomy and mutters too quietly for anyone to hear. All he really wants is friends, and his poison magic is deadly.
Grey is a shy shapeshifter who hides behind other forms, until she finds the courage to be herself.
Zora Ideale hated the Magic Knights for how they treated his father, until Asta changed his mind.
Henry Legolant barely leaves the base, because his recombination magic is the base, and he can reshape it at will.
Secre Swallowtail spent years disguised as Nero, the black bird that follows Asta everywhere. Her true identity is one of the series' best surprises.
Nacht Faust is the squad's long-absent vice captain, who uses shadow magic and becomes Asta's teacher in mastering devil power.

Many shōnen squads are collections of powerful fighters. The Black Bulls feel like a family, and a dysfunctional one. That's the secret of their popularity:

How Asta Joined the Black Bulls

At the Magic Knights entrance exam, every captain rejects Asta. A boy with no magic seemed useless in an army of mages. Only Yami saw something in him, after Asta stood up to him and declared he would become Wizard King. Yami took him in on the spot.

The Black Bulls Robe and Symbol
